Menuki are pairs of traditional ornamental sword fittings that would be placed under the binding on the handle of a katana and were commonly exported for use in jewelry in Europe during the Aesthetic Period of the late 1800's. The actual menuki pictured here may be as much as a century older, but the cufflinks were made in the mid to late 1800's. These menuki
